Another fine tank delivered
Rotterdam, 11 September 2020 – In early May, one of our clients in Europoort commissioned us to design, manufacture and install a new sulphur tank for them. Their existing sulphur tank was in need of replacement.
In terms of scale, one couldn’t call this order difficult to accommodate in our spacious production location. With a diameter of approximately 7.5 metres and a similar height of around 7.5, this tank definitely stood out among the ‘big boys’. But regardless of size, it once again proved a very interesting project.
After rounding off the engineering for the tank, we started on production in early July. We then proceeded to sandblast and coat the exterior.
In addition, we completely insulated the tank and finished it with aluminium corrugated panels. To ensure the temperature of the sulphur in the tank can be effectively maintained at a temperature of 145°C, we installed a steam heating coil across the entire floor of the unit.
We executed all these activities consecutively in our own production hall at Heijplaat in Rotterdam.
On 7 September 2020, the tank was ready for transport. It was a clear day, with a gentle breeze: perfect conditions for moving the tank to its final location.
After an uneventful voyage from Rotterdam’s Heijplaat to Europoort, the tank was unloaded at our client’s quay and transferred to its final site by truck.
SJR will presently be water-testing the new tank on site, after which our client will take the unit into operation.
